The continuous and intermittent thermal transfer printer known as the ttPRINT is a direct print module in one print head designed to output a high resolution print for packaging and labelling machines. The ttPRINT ribbon cartridge is easy to change and is available in a variety of colours and print widths.

Integration is made simple by the separation of the print head and the control unit, and the optional extras include the touch panel control panel and ttGRAPHIC software for use via a PC. A maximum of four print head units can be
operated simultaneously via the touch panel.

How it works

Thermal Transfer printers use a thermal ribbon that is coated on one side with ink. This ribbon is placed between a heated print head and the product to be marked. When these three elements are in contact, the print process begins.

The print head consists of 300 individually controlled heating components. Software converts the print design in to signals that then controls the print head. The signals rapidly heat up and cool down the individual components as the print head moves over the ribbon.

As the heat from the print head is passed though the ribbon it causes the ink to melt and be released on to the product. The ink quickly cools giving a crisp dry permanent image.

Thermal Transfer printers can operate in two modes, Intermittent or Continuous.

In Intermittent mode the product is moved in to position, then remains stationary as the print head moves over it and prints the desired design.

In Continuous mode the print head remains stationary while the product is moved continuously.
