The partnership with PrintSafe began with a simple conversation when a trusted industry contact had joined Xact Packing, Well-established coding experts PrintSafe talked through Xact’s needs, building a staged profile of the coding and marking operations required to meet Xact’s developing needs. Starting with the right solution
Back in 2024, Xact Packing first needed a system to code flat-form packaging for a major retail project involving an initial run of 500,000 cartons. As the work involved premium, branded gift packaging, reliability and excellent and accurate print quality were critical.
Rather than recommending an immediate purchase, PrintSafe supplied a Koenig & Bauer Coding udaFORMAXX sleeve and carton feeder and thermal inkjet printer on a rental basis. This gave Xact Packing the opportunity to prove the application in production before making a longer-term investment.
The equipment quickly demonstrated its value, not only for the original project but across a range of other gift packaging contracts, leading Xact Packing to purchase the system.
Finding answers to new challenges
Xact took on new customer projects as time moved on, bringing new coding challenges and opportunities for the partnership.
During a regular site visit in 2025, the team identified to PrintSafe several premium gift boxes where codes were to be applied to the underside of crash lock cartons.
Working closely with Xact Packing, PrintSafe assessed the production process and carried out on-site trials. The result was the installation of an alphaJET mondo continuous inkjet printer mounted over an existing conveyor, providing a simple, effective solution that is integrated seamlessly into production.
Supporting growth with flexible solutions
As production volumes increased, so did the need for greater flexibility.
When Xact Packing secured a project requiring 800,000 cartons across three different packaging variants to be labelled, PrintSafe once again recommended a rental solution which included another sleeve and carton feeder combined with a label applicator. This enabled production to begin immediately while allowing the business to ensure the system met every requirement before committing to purchase.
Following a successful production period, the system was purchased through a rent-to-buy agreement, providing confidence as well as flexibility.
Adding value through experience
One of the defining features of the partnership has been PrintSafe’s consultative approach.
Xact Packing began exploring options for their secondary packaging, a solution incorporating a dual-head coding system had initially been proposed. After reviewing the application more closely, PrintSafe identified a more efficient solution this time using drop on demand, single head technology still from Koenig & Bauer Coding.
By coding the outer cases while they were still in their flat form, Xact Packing could achieve the same result using a single head betaJET HRX high resolution inkjet printer, reducing equipment requirements while simplifying the production process and moreover reducing costs per print.
Following a successful trial, the betaJET HRX was installed in 2026.
